Sometimes we are lucky enough to read an idea that reveals new perspective, resolves our determination, and inspires confidence. Such was the case when I stumbled upon this jewel featured in the New York Times back in 2012.
The Black List sent an email to subscribers promoting The Psychology of Storytelling. Apparently, Lindsey Doran will change everything you know about screenwriting. Skeptical of this incredulous, over dramatic boast, I felt it my duty to read the corresponding New York Times article referenced in the ad.
To say I was pleasantly surprised is as equally understated as ‘Michael Jordan was a good basketball player’. The concept Lindsey Doran presented, in 2012 no less, blew me away like a crumbling leaf in a gust of November wind.
Now I’m inspired to tackle my next script armed with a clear understanding of my audience’s subconscious, emotional desires.
